Pfc Janik was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on December 31st, 1918 and 
was reported missing in action on February 7, 1942 and reported killed in 
action on February 26, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge.

Pfc Janik is the son of Wojciech {William} Janik [b.1883 in Galicia, came to 
America 1904 and died approx 1943] a rope wirer at a cotton mill and the 
son of Kathryn {Katie} Kozienkiewicz Janik [b. 1896 in Galicia, came to 
America in 1912 and died in 1968] a carder and spinner in a cotton mill. 

The 1930 US Census for Chicopee, Hampden County, MA shows Stanley 
residing at # 7 Cabot Street with his parents and brother Leon [b.1916 in Ma 
and died 1995 and sister Helen Janik {Pulaski} [b. 1915 in Ma and died in 
2002] and sister Josephine Janik {Gazda} [b. 1921 in MA and alive in 2005]

Stanley attended West Street School, Chicopee. From 1936 thru March 1937 
Stanley was enrolled at the CCC at Ft Devens, Ma. Later he was employed 
at the Perkins Machine and Gear Company.

Pfc Janik enlisted in the Army on May 20th, 1942 
at Springfield, MA . His enlistment records states Stanley
 had completed 1 year of high school and was single. Pfc Janik completed 
training  in August 1942 at Camp Croft , South Carolina and won his 
Paratrooper Wings at Fort Benning, Georgia.

During Operation Neptune , June 6 1944 Pfc Janik parachuted fromhis C-47 
Troop Transport plane with Tail#223637, #11 in the Chalk, #3 in the line. 
Pfc Janik fought with Company F during the Airborne invasion of 
Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, Belgium. Pfc Janik was the 
'Company Runner' 

 Pfc Janik was first reported missing in action on Feb 7, 1945  on a mission 
across the Oeur River into Dasburg, Germany. It was verified that Pfc Janik 
had been killed in action on February 26, 1945.
 Pfc Janik was first interred in Luxembourg,  was brought home  and interred 
at the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley, Massachusetts.
 
Pfc Janik was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Croix de Guerre Unit 
Citation  [French], the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal 
with one Bronze Service Star, World War II Victory Medal,  WWII 
Honorable Service Lapel Button, Parachute Badge.
